Urology

A urologist is a doctor who focuses on urinary tract conditions in men and women, including the bladder and kidneys, and conditions involving the male reproductive organs. Urology care at Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital encompasses the diagnoses and treatment of a wide range of conditions, including:

  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Incontinence
  • Infertility
  • Prostate issues and cancers
  • Urinary tract cancers
  • Urinary stones

If surgery is necessary, our board-certified urologists offer progressive surgical techniques to treat your condition as quickly and effectively as possible, including minimally invasive brachytherapy treatment.

Prostate Health

According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer for American men, other than skin cancer, with one in six developing the disease in their lifetime. Most prostate cancer tumors are slow growing, but the disease is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths in men, behind lung cancer. That’s why it is important to find prostate cancer early, while it is easier to treat.

Our compassionate team of specialists use the latest diagnostic and treatment options for prostate cancer. Doctors often combine more than one therapy to treat prostate cancer, such as:

  • Active surveillance – In cases where prostate cancer is discovered early and is growing slowly, you may be offered a wait-and-see approach referred to as “active surveillance.”
  • Chemotherapy – Chemotherapy uses drugs to target cells — including cancer cells — that grow quickly. It is often used when prostate cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
  • Cryosurgery – This technique, also called cryotherapy or cryoablation, is sometimes used to treat localized prostate cancer. Small needles placed into the prostate freeze diseased tissue.
  • Hormone therapy – This treatment works by reducing your body’s ability to create testosterone, which fuels prostate cancer growth. Lowering the levels of male hormones, mainly testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT), can make prostate cancers shrink or grow more slowly.
  • Radiation therapy – This treatment option can include external-beam or internal methods, such as brachytherapy.
  • Robotic surgery – The prostate is removed using the minimally invasive da Vinci® Xi™ surgical system, offering less pain and scarring and a faster recovery than open or laparoscopic surgeries. Many men can return to normal activity within a few days.

If you have been diagnosed with prostate cancer, request an appointment or second opinion consultation with one of our prostate cancer experts. We are here to answer your questions and provide our state-of-art treatment options that best work for you.
