  • Cardiac Intensive Care Unit includes direct management of post-operative congenital heart disease patients and exposure to ECMO and CICU approaches to sedation, ventilation, and medication management
  • Outpatient Clinic is spread throughout the year during research rotations, with occasional half day clinics including our Comprehensive Care Clinic (Pulmonology and Gastroenterology/Dietary follow-up), NICU Developmental follow-up Clinic, Synagis Clinic, and with other specialties that manage NICU patients after discharge
  • Palliative Care will include inpatient and outpatient work with the palliative care team including involvement in family meetings where major care decisions are made
  • The Interdisciplinary Care rotation allows you to work with the many non-physician disciplines that provide critical services in the NICU
  • Spend time with nursing, respiratory therapy, PT, OT, speech-language therapy, care management, nutrition/dieticians, and pharmacy
  • Elective blocks are flexible and intended to allow you to gain experience in an area of particular interest
    • Specific NICU-related clinical electives including Complex Care, ECMO, Neonatal Pharmacy/Nutrition
    • Surgical electives include general surgery, ENT, neurosurgery (including fetal surgery), and Urology
    • Or you can design your own elective!
  • Research Rotations
    • Flexible time to arrange for your specific needs depending upon your research project

Call and Weekend Schedule

  • Around 40 in-house calls per year
  • During clinical service time, ONLY weekend calls
    • One Friday 24 hour shift and one Saturday 24 hour shift per clinical service month
    • This allows you to be consistently present Monday-Friday for the rotation to preserve continuity and maximize your educational experience
  • Two full weekends off per month on all rotations
