Admissions

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

A position for one new resident is available starting on or near July 1 of each year at Orlando Health Cancer Institute Department of Radiation Oncology. Open positions will be advertised and accepted solely through the AAPM Medical Physics Residency Application Program (MP-RAP) until the deadline listed on the website. We are committed to and participate in the MedPhys Match in order to place applicants. Therefore, all interested applicants must register with the MedPhys Match Program.

After the stated closing date for applications, application materials will be thoroughly reviewed by the Program Director and Associate Program Director. The applicants will be evaluated initially based on the submitted application material. The top ranking 10-20 candidates will be sent invitations for a phone interview around early to mid-January. After phone interviews are conducted, invitations for on-site interviews are sent to the selected 10-15 individuals which will generally take place during January and February and last one full day. The on-site interview is a great time for our department to get to know the candidate and for the candidate to get to know our department. Candidates will meet with physicists, physician faculty, current residents, and members of the dosimetry team. The interviewee will also take a tour of the main campus downtown department. Visit the The Society of Directors of Academic Medical Physics Programs (SDAMPP) calendar to see the residency interview calendar for all residency programs.

Upon completion of the interviews, each interviewer provides an evaluation form to the Program Director who will compile the information for each interviewee. All interviewers will then meet to collectively generate the final rank order list, which will be submitted to the MedPhys Match Program in order to fill our residency position. Offers will be made via the MedPhys Match in March.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have an M.S. or Ph.D. in medical physics from a CAMPEP-accredited graduate education program. Candidates with a Ph.D. or M.S. in physics, engineering, or related fields who have completed a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program will also be considered. The potential applicant must complete the application through MP-RAP and participate in the MedPhys Match. The successful candidate must also obtain a Medical Physicist-In-Training license from the State of Florida Department of Health prior to starting their residency.

NUMBER OF RESIDENTS

The Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program is designed to handle two residents concurrently at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. One resident is scheduled to graduate from the program every June.
