Orlando Regional Medical Center in the top one percent nationwide
U. S. News & World Report recognizes hospital for its high performing treatments and procedures
Orlando, FL (August 17, 2018) – Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) has been recognized by U. S. News & World Report as one of the highest performing hospitals nationwide in nine essential clinical areas. Out of 4,500 hospitals, ORMC is one of only 18 to be rated “high performing” for two consecutive years in two chronic conditions – chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure – and seven surgical procedures; abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, colon cancer surgery, heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery.
The rankings by U. S. News & World Report complement the organization’s many other notable recognitions. Earlier this year, Orlando Health received its seventh consecutive Overall 3 Star Rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons for providing excellent care to patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery (CABG) as well as a 3 Star rating for aortic valve replacement (AVR) and its fourth consecutive 3 Star rating for aortic valve replacement with coronary artery bypass surgery (AVR+CABG).
Four Orlando Health hospitals have also achieved accreditation as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery by Surgical Review Corporation; ORMC, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, South Lake Hospital and Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. The accreditation distinguishes the hospitals from other facilities by providing the highest quality of care to its patients as determined by an independent, external process of evaluation.
The Orlando Health UF Health Cancer Center, in association with UF Health, is currently in year two of a three-year accreditation with commendation by the Commission on Cancer, a quality program of the American College of Surgeons. The Cancer Center is one of seven facilities in the state to achieve accreditation in the Integrated Network Cancer Program category, which is bestowed on cancer programs that meet or exceed the organization’s 34 quality standards.
In cardiac care, the American College of Cardiology has recognized several Orlando Health hospitals for their demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain by awarding Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI to ORMC, Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, Health Central Hospital, and South Lake Hospital and awarding South Seminole Hospital Chest Pain Center Accreditation based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. Two years prior, ORMC received full Atrial Fibrillation with Electrophysiology Services (EPS) Accreditation status from the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care, making it one of only two hospitals in Florida and the only one in Central Florida achieving the designation for its Atrial Fibrillation Program.
