Stop the Bleed Community Class Launched
On April 20, Orlando Health Level One Trauma Team and Orange County Office
of the EMS Medical Director launched bleeding control training to help save
lives following man-made or natural mass casualty events. The two entities
joined to announce their response to a national call to provide special training
to first responders and civilian bystanders to help save lives through
controlling bleeding in injured persons.
Attendees took part in a simulation learning demonstration of how a
bleeding control kit can be used to stop bleeding after an injury. Bleeding
control kits, or B-Con Kits as they are referred to, include: gloves, tourniquet
(s), gauze coated with special medication to help with clotting, pressure
bandage/compression application.
Classes will be held once a month through December, and are open to team
members and the community.
The next Stop the Bleed class is Thursday, May 11 at 6 pm. Check the SWIFT Calendar for more details and how to pre-register.
