Orlando Health Urologist Offers Men’s Health Advancement

Orlando, FL (October 20, 2023) – Orlando Health is offering a new option for the treatment of a common condition that can seriously impact quality of life for most men over the age of 50.

The minimally invasive procedure, called holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), treats benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), more commonly known as prostate gland enlargement.

BPH is a non-cancerous condition that affects about 50% of men between the age of 51 and 60 to some degree. That percentage increases to around 80% of men aged 70 and older. Symptoms of BPH include frequent urination, weak urine stream, and difficulty urinating.

HoLEP uses a laser to remove excess prostate tissue obstructing the urethra and causing urinary issues. It is a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgical methods for treating BPH. It offers several advantages, including shorter hospital stays, reduced bleeding, and faster recovery times compared to traditional surgical techniques.

Dr. Amin is a urologist with Orlando Health Medical Group Urology based at Orlando Health – Health  Central Hospital. He is one of a few physicians in the southeast US trained in HoLEP and employs the latest techniques in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. He also has expertise in overactive bladder and incontinence, kidney, prostate and bladder cancer, men’s sexual health, and complex stone disease.
