Symptoms
Women may experience a variety of symptoms and discomfort related to gynecological disorders, including pelvic pain, abnormal uterine bleeding, ovarian cysts, vaginal pain, pelvic mass or pelvic pressure, pain during intercourse, obstructive urinary and bowel symptoms and reproductive problems, among other symptoms. Please discuss your symptoms with your physician who can assist you with a diagnosis and treatment plan, including minimally invasive techniques that get you back to your life faster.
Abnormal uterine bleeding can often be treated with endometrial ablation, a safe and effective minimally invasive procedure.
Endometriosis is a condition in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus begins to grow outside the uterus. Symptoms may include pelvic pain, fatigue, severe pain with periods, pain with intercourse and, in extreme cases, bladder or intestinal pain. Endometriosis sometimes involves the ovaries and can lead to infertility. Minimally invasive procedures are available for cases from minor to deeply infiltrating endometriosis.
Your physician will evaluate you for endometriosis through a pelvic exam, which may be followed by an ultrasound exam, laparoscopic procedure or biopsy. Treatment may include hormonal medications and treatments to manage pain. Minimally invasive surgery for endometriosis is available from the skilled surgeons at Orlando Health Horizon West, including procedures to treat deep infiltrating endometriosis or ovarian endometriomas.
Fibroids (or leiomyomas) are noncancerous growths that form in and around the wall of the uterus, often appearing during childbearing years. Fibroids can cause pain, bleeding, heavy periods, pelvic pressure, pain during intercourse, obstructive urinary and bowel symptoms, and reproductive problems.
The specialists at Orlando Health Horizon West will diagnose your fibroids using an ultrasound, MRI or other imaging technique and determine the best treatment based on the fibroid’s size and location.
Our specialists may recommend nonsurgical, minimally invasive or surgical options to help shrink your fibroids. Our team offers the latest treatment options, One such procedure, called a uterine artery embolization, eliminates the fibroid’s blood supply. This procedure is performed by our interventional radiologists as an outpatient procedure done under light anesthesia.
Treatment options for fibroids include:
- Medication — Drug therapy may help alleviate heavy bleeding and painful periods, but it will not stop fibroid growth.
- Myomectomy — a procedure that involves removing the fibroids but leaving the uterus intact.
- Hysterectomy — When other options have been unsuccessful, removal of the uterus may be necessary.
Your gynecologist at Orlando Health Horizon West will recommend the best fibroid treatment for your individual needs, making sure you are comfortable every step of the way.
Prolapse is a hernia of the pelvic organs, allowing the organs to drop into or protrude through the vaginal opening. Minimally invasive options are available to restore the anatomy and function of the pelvic floor organs.
Pelvic pain can be caused by a variety of conditions which can be addressed through minimally invasive procedures.
