Joint Replacement Program

Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. This distinction was earned through a rigorous on-site review by The Joint Commission where experts evaluated our compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, from presurgical orthopedic consultation to intraoperative care and rehabilitation activities to postsurgical follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon. Achieving this certification recognizes Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillip’s commitment to provide care in a safe and efficient manner.
If you are undergoing knee or hip replacement, our team of board-certified orthopedic surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and clinical technicians is committed to providing you with the best care possible to help you regain your independence and quality of life.
You will receive inpatient care on a dedicated surgical care unit with orthopedic-certified nurses specializing in orthopedic care expertise and an exclusive rehabilitation team. We focus on compassionate and individualized care for every patient. An on-site inpatient rehab gym, private rooms, family lounge and a quiet, friendly atmosphere are just a few of the amenities provided.

A Multidisciplinary Approach
Our multidisciplinary program includes surgical and medical care, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, care coordination, respiratory therapy and pharmacy. In addition to orthopedic surgeons and medical doctors, your care providers may include hospitalists, anesthesiologists and specialists in areas such as cardiology or infectious disease.
This program reflects the commitment and collaboration that has developed between our surgeons, physical therapists, care coordinators, nurses, hospital departments and of course our patients and families. This collaboration is patient-centered and focused to put you, the patient, first, and engage you in every aspect of your surgical journey. Our goal is to deliver the best care and improve patient outcomes based on national standards.
Individualized Plan of Care
Our Joint Replacement Center was designed with the patient in mind. Our multidisciplinary team will ensure that all your medical needs are met before, during and after your hospital stay. We also believe you play an integral part in your recovery.
Preparing for Joint Replacement Surgery
We offer a live, interactive pre-op class that will familiarize you and your “coach” (a loved one that will help you through your recovery) with the expectations of joint replacement surgery. The class covers topics such as how to prepare for surgery, what to bring to the hospital, needs for recovery, rehabilitation, hospital stay and discharge process.
Joint Replacement Surgery Education
Research has shown that patients gain greater confidence in their upcoming procedure if they know what to expect.
You will receive an informational binder from your surgeon 4 to 6 weeks prior to surgery. Each binder covers a variety of topics, from the surgery itself to the recovery period, including physical therapy and follow-up care at home. Safety tips are included to help the family provide a safe and more comfortable environment in the home during rehabilitation. In addition, phone numbers are provided in the binders, with information for local rehabilitation centers and insurance case managers.
Clinical data has shown that programs such as these result in quicker recovery and rehabilitation times, as well as shorter hospital stays with less pain medications required.
Minimally Invasive Robotic Surgery
At Orlando Health Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, we are committed to offering our patients the most advanced treatment options for improved health outcomes and quality of life. For individuals with arthritic knee and hip problems, we are proud to offer minimally invasive robotic surgery, which minimizes discomfort and speeds recovery.
