How old do I have to be to volunteer?
16 for Teens, 18 and up for Adults

Will volunteering help me secure a paid job at St. Cloud Hospital?
No, volunteering is not a means for employment

Can I begin volunteering tomorrow?
No, due to sensitivity and intensity of issues encountered in a hospital, we have an extensive screening process that includes:

  • Criminal Background checks

  • Tuberculosis Test

  • Drug/Alcohol Test

  • Verification of two (2) references

Where do I get my drug/alcohol screening and tuberculosis test?
Information will be given to you at the time of your interview. The screenings and tuberculosis test are done at Orlando Health’s Occupational Health office.

Do my hours carry over to another Orlando Health facility?
No

Can I volunteer in more than one area?
Yes, you may work in more than one area, as long as you work a minimum of four (4) hours per shift in each.

Can I volunteer more than one day per week?
Yes, you may work more than one day per week.

What if I am going on vacation or otherwise need to take time from y volunteering schedule?
We ask that you notify us in advance so an alternate can be assigned.

What is the minimum commitment to volunteer?
We ask that you volunteer a minimum of four (4) hours per week for six (6) months.

What are the benefits provided to the volunteer by the hospital?
You are provided free parking, given a free meal (up to $6 value) in the cafeteria for each day, we provide you a polo shirt. We also have one recognition event each year.

What about parking at the hospital?
Parking is free in our patient/guest parking garage.

Do I have to wear a uniform?
Yes, a polo shirt is provided and to be worn with dress full-length slacks (no jeans/denim) and closedtoed, closed-heel shoes, with socks.

Can my spouse volunteer with me at the same time?
Yes

Can I serve my court ordered community service hours at the hospital?
No, Orlando Health does not accept applications from those attempting to complete Court Ordered Community Service hours

I am a Teen and need to finish my community service hours for high school. Can I volunteer?
Yes, if the following applies:

  • Are you 16 years old?

  • Currently enrolled in High School (or equivalent) and maintain a “B” (3.0) average or above.

  • Willing to complete a screening process that includes Drug/Alcohol and Tuberculosis Test?

  • Willing to commit to completing the entire session for which you are applying?

  • Have reliable transportation to and from Dr. P. Phillips Hospital?

Can I come in whenever I have the time to volunteer?
No, due to scheduling of staff and other volunteers, a regular shift is required.
