History of Nursing at Orlando Health

More than 100 years ago on November 5, 1918, Orange General Hospital opened its doors to serve the Central Florida community. Nurses assisted the first patient, Ida Chiles, with the birth of her baby boy by candlelight because there was no gas or electricity. Although much has changed in the last century for the nursing profession and Orange General Hospital, including a name change to Orlando Health, the mission of our nurses has not changed. The nurses who came before us made countless contributions to set the foundation for quality, compassionate nursing care, and we are inspired to move forward, continuing their tradition of nursing excellence.
