Bio
Hermes G. Garcia, MD, is a board-certified neurological surgeon with the Orlando Health Neuroscience Institute. His specialty is treating tumors sitting underneath the brain at the skull base.
Specialized Surgical Care
As a specialist in skull base surgery, Dr. Garcia offers a number of surgical procedures, which enable him to provide treatment for each patient’s specific needs. Some of these are:
- Microscopic surgery
- Minimally invasive endoscopy
- Laser and ultrasonic procedures
- Open skull base surgery
- Stereotactic radiosurgery
Dr. Garcia’s Training
Dr. Garcia earned both his bachelor of science in biology and medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico, graduating magna cum laude. He completed his neurosurgery residency at the Medical Sciences Campus of the University of Puerto Rico. He then went on to fulfill a skull base and cerebrovascular surgery fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in Seattle and minimally invasive endoscopic skull base surgery fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
About Dr. Garcia
As well as having earned the distinction of diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgery, Dr. Garcia is a member of the North American Skull Base Society. Active in his profession, he has presented his research at national meetings of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and North American Skull Base Society.
He also has published book chapters about cranial base surgery, and his work has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals. These include The Journal of Neurological Surgery, International Forum of Allergy and Rhinology, The Journal of Neuroscience, and The Journal of Molecular Neuroscience.
Dr. Garcia is fluent in both English and Spanish.
