Bio
Dr. Kirk Maes is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He is fellowship trained in sports medicine and has more than 25 years of experience treating arthritic patients who need joint replacements in addition to a variety of sports-related injuries. His expertise includes:
- Total shoulder, knee and hip replacements
- Arthroscopic shoulder surgery for rotator cuff tears, cartilage lesions and shoulder instability
- Arthroscopic knee surgery for cartilage tears and ligament reconstruction
- Fracture surgery and nonsurgical fracture repair
- Hand and elbow surgery
Dr. Maes strives to provide quality care with an emphasis on compassion and understanding of each individual’s needs.
Dr. Maes’ Training
Dr. Maes graduated with honors with a bachelor’s degree in human physiology from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, where he also received two years of graduate-level training in exercise physiology. He received his medical degree from Michigan State University in East Lansing. Dr. Maes completed his residency in orthopedic surgery and fellowship in orthopedic sports medicine at Allegheny University Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Maes served as a physician in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. While attending college in Hawaii, he was recognized as an outstanding student athlete on the swimming team. He volunteered as a high school team physician and was active in Boy Scouts.
Outside of work, Dr. Maes enjoys backpacking, hiking, swimming and cycling.
