Peter Taylor, MD, FACC, MBA, is a board-certified cardiologist with the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute and Orlando Health Medical Group. He specializes in clinical cardiac electrophysiology, cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure.

About Electrophysiology

Electrophysiology is a cardiac specialty enabling physicians to diagnose and treat patients with arrhythmia, also known as an irregular heartbeat. For most patients, diagnosis can be difficult because arrhythmias are unpredictable.

Dr. Taylor is a skilled clinical cardiac electrophysiologist and uses a catheterization procedure to determine the precise location of the arrhythmia to accurately diagnose and treat the issue. If treatment is required, he uses advanced medical technology to perform additional electrophysiological procedures.

Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure

Electrophysiology is beneficial to the two most common conditions Dr. Taylor treats, cardiovascular disease and heart failure. Cardiovascular disease is a broad term for numerous disorders of the heart and blood vessels such as coronary artery disease, deep vein thrombosis and peripheral arterial disease, to name a few. Another is advanced heart failure, also known as congenital heart failure, a progressive condition where the heart is unable to pump an adequate amount to blood to meet the body’s need for blood and oxygen.

Dr. Taylor is skilled in the diagnosis and treatment of these and more. Besides electrophysiology, a few of the procedures he performs include:

  • Catheter ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias
  • Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
  • Implantation and management of internal cardiac defibrillators
  • Implantation and management of permanent pacemakers

Dr. Taylor’s clinical interests include:

  • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy
  • Management of internal cardiac defibrillators and permanent pacemakers
  • Diagnostic electrophysiology studies
  • Catheter ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias
  • Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF)
  • Amyloidosis
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Healthcare disparities

Dr. Taylor’s Training

Dr. Taylor earned his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia followed by a residency in internal medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. He then completed fellowship in cardiology, plus additional year of training in electrophysiology, at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Taylor then earned his MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

About Dr. Taylor

He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and has additional qualifications in cardiovascular disease, electrophysiology and advanced heart failure.

An area of significant interest for Dr. Taylor is health disparity, which the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) defines as “preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to achieve optimal health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations.? Health disparity results in conditions that unfairly advantage some and disadvantage others, placing people of color at greater risk for poor health outcomes.
