For incontinence, an artificial genito-urinary sphincter made of silicone may be implanted. The device has an inflatable cuff that fits around the urethra near the point where it joins the bladder. The cuff is inflated to keep urine from leaking. When urination is desired, the cuff is deflated, allowing urine to drain out. For erectile dysfunction, an inflatable penile prosthesis may be inserted. This saline-filled device expands and contracts without losing elasticity.
