Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute Expands to Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital

Orlando, FL (September 24, 2024) – Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital is excited to welcome Hany Takla, MD to the team and expand specialized healthcare services in the West Orange County community. Dr. Takla is a board-certified surgeon at the Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute who will be based in Ocoee.

Dr. Takla has completed more than 1,600 robotic procedures and more than 500 weight loss procedures. He believes in providing quality care, surgical excellence and individualized attention to every patient.

“What’s really important to note with these surgeries is that weight loss is just one aspect of the benefits our patients experience,” Dr. Takla said. “It’s lifechanging for them, as we vastly reduce co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension and improve overall quality of life.”

Dr. Takla’s specialties include bariatric surgery, robotic surgery, foregut and reflux surgery and bariatric endoscopy. Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute is recognized as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

“I’m excited to help launch this program at Orlando Health – Health Central Hospital,” Dr. Takla said. He’ll be seeing patients in Suite 288 of the medical office building and performing surgeries at the hospital.

Before joining Orlando Health, Dr. Takla served as a surgeon at several New England hospitals with roles including medical director of robotic surgery, medical director of surgical services and chair of the surgery department. He received his medical training from Cairo University Medical School in Egypt. He completed general surgery residencies at the University of Washington in Seattle and the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School in Worcester. He completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Banner - University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.

Dr. Takla, who’s from Cairo, Egypt, comes from a family of physicians, which initially spurred his interest in medicine. He’s fluent in English and Arabic. During his free time, Dr. Takla and his wife, who is also in the medical field, enjoy exploring the outdoors, running and kitesurfing.
