Orlando Health South Lake Hospital Named a Recognized Leader in Caring for People Living with Diabetes

The hospital is one of two in Florida and among 36 in the country given the honor

Clermont, FL (June 4, 2025) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital has been designated as a leader in caring for people living with diabetes by the American Diabetes Association and The Leapfrog Group. The award recognizes the hospital’s strong commitment to the safety and well-being of hospitalized people living with diabetes—estimated to be 30 percent of all patients.

“To receive this honor is a testament to our dedicated team of physicians, nurses, clinicians and medical professionals,” said Lance Sewell, president, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital. “Their commitment to exceptional care and upholding the highest standards, particularly for patients living with diabetes, is evident with this achievement.”

Orlando Health South Lake was one of only two hospitals in Florida to attain this honor. The first-of-its-kind designation program evaluates hospitals based on their care for people with diabetes during admission, stay, and discharge. The program operationalizes the ADA’s globally recognized guidelines for the treatment of people with diabetes, the Standards of Care in Diabetes—2025, along with Leapfrog’s standards for excellence in hospital safety and quality.

As the trusted community hospital in South Lake County, Orlando Health South Lake Hospital has provided healthcare to residents for more than 75 years. It is the only Leapfrog Group A-rated hospital in Lake County, having been recognized with this honor for seven consecutive years, and is a designated Leapfrog Top Teaching Hospital.
