Thomas Kelley, MD, Named Vice President of Quality & Clinical Transformation

Thomas R. Kelley, MD, has been named Orlando Health’s Vice President of Quality and Clinical Transformation. Dr. Kelley has most recently served as the organization’s Chief Quality Officer (CQO) and as CQO at Orlando Health South Seminole Hospital. Dr. Kelley’s new title reflects the increased responsibilities he has taken on within our organizational quality structure.

Dr. Kelley graduated from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville. He worked as a faculty physician training residents at Atlanta Medical Center, where he developed the first continuous quality improvement council for the residency program. He also started the only free clinic to serve the uninsured people of South Atlanta and founded the Georgia Free Clinic Network.
In 1992, Dr. Kelley learned he had cancer. His experience as a cancer patient gave him a unique perspective on the doctor-patient dynamic, and fueled his passion and commitment to continuously improve patient care quality and safety processes. After making a full recovery, he was named chief resident for family medicine.
In 2005, Dr. Kelley and his family moved from Georgia to Longwood, Florida, where he joined his father’s primary care practice, which was founded on the principles of strong patient/physician relationships.
Dr. Kelley began his affiliation with Orlando Health in 2009 and was named as the organization’s CQO in March 2014. In addition to his CQO roles, he has served on several key system-wide quality workgroups and chaired the corporate VTE (venous thromboembolism) taskforce and the corporate quality and safety committee. He is currently leading a system-wide initiative to standardize best clinical practices through a program known as RightCare, and his focus continues to be providing our patients with an exceptional experience.
Dr. Kelley assumed his new role on May 1. He will also continue his clinical practice in Longwood on a part-time basis.
