Bio
Dr. Imran Farooq is a board-certified interventional cardiologist and endovascular and limb salvage specialist with Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. Dr. Farooq’s expertise includes the most recent non-surgical, least invasive treatment options for peripheral artery disease, critical limb ischemia, deep and superficial venous interventions, and pulmonary embolism and DVT interventions.

What Is Interventional Cardiology?
As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Farooq treats specific conditions affecting the circulatory system such as blockages in the lower extremities and carotid arteries. Many blockages can be treated using minimally invasive techniques, including angioplasty and stents, while more severe diseases may require bypass surgery.
About Limb Salvage
Highly specialized in limb salvage, Dr. Farooq treats patients with circulatory blockages that may result in the loss of limbs and other extremities due to injury or blocked blood vessels. Using microvascular techniques, he seeks to return blood flow to areas that might have otherwise required amputation.
Dr. Farooq’s Training
Graduating with honors, he earned his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar. After completing his internship and residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, where he served as chief resident, Dr. Farooq earned his master’s degree in healthcare administration at the same institution.
He went on to complete a fellowship in general cardiology at VCU, where he served as chief fellow and was awarded Outstanding Graduating Cardiology Fellow and recognized for exemplary leadership. These accomplishments were followed by an endovascular fellowship at First Coast Cardiovascular Institute in Jacksonville.
About Dr. Farooq
Dr. Farooq is a member of the American Medical Association and certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology; American Board of Vascular Medicine in vascular medicine and endovascular medicine; Board of Nuclear Cardiology in nuclear cardiology; and Alliance for Physician Certification and Advancement in vascular interpretation. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions.
Dr. Farooq is an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, a frequent presenter at meetings and conferences, and an accomplished author whose work has appeared in many peer-reviewed publications. He is fluent in English, Urdu and Hindi.
In 2016, Dr. Farooq was invited by Sheikha Mozza, Queen of Qatar, to return to Qatar as a distinguished alumni of Weill Cornell Medical College to discuss healthcare policy and increasing the growth of medical education in Doha, the country’s capital.
When not caring for patients, he enjoys spending time with his wife, who is also a physician, and their three daughters. Other interests include jogging and working out.
