Dr. Mariatu Verla is a general surgeon with Orlando Health Medical Group. Dr. Verla is skilled in performing a variety of surgeries on her patients, including:
- Lymph node biopsy
- Gallbladder removal
- Hernia repairs
- Excisions of benign skin lesions
- Gastrointestinal procedures
- Hemorrhoidectomy
- Endoscopy procedures
- Port-a-cath insertion and removal
- Feeding tube placement
Dr. Verla believes that caring for her patients in their most vulnerable moment is a great privilege. She also believes in providing them with the best medical advice possible so they can take control of their healthcare decisions.
Dr. Verla’s Training
Dr. Verla earned her medical degree from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill, as well as a master of public health (MPH) and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Dr. Verla completed a general surgery residency and a surgery research fellowship in fetal and pediatric surgery at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
She has also completed training in using the da Vinci surgical system for minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery.

Outside of work, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family. She is fluent in Krio and English.
