Bio
Dr. Paul Appleby is a board-certified and fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon with Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital. His specialties include:
- Bariatric and metabolic surgery
- Revisional bariatric surgery
- Complex hernia and abdominal wall reconstruction
- Robotic general surgery
- Foregut and anti-reflux surgery
- Colorectal surgery
- Obesity medicine
Dr. Appleby is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. He believes in treating each patient with a personalized approach based on trust and respect. His goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and care necessary to achieve optimal health and well-being.
Dr. Appleby’s Training
Dr. Appleby earned a bachelor’s degree in public health sciences at Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina, and received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He completed a residency in general surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he served as chief resident his final year. He completed a fellowship in advanced gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, where he was trained in the latest minimally invasive techniques to improve patient outcomes and allow for a faster recovery.
About Dr. Appleby
Dr. Appleby is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Obesity. He is board certified in bariatric surgery by the American Board of Obesity and in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. His professional memberships include the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Outside of work, Dr. Appleby enjoys spending time with family, staying active and being outdoors.

Why do some Orlando Health physicians not have a patient experience rating?
The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions, shown above, from our nationally-recognized Press-Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question.
Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
The comments are submitted by patients and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not necessarily reflect the views of Orlando Health.
Ratings may not be present for certain physicians of Orlando Health Physician Group and Orlando Health Physician Associates because:
- The physician has not yet met the minimum number of 30 patient satisfaction surveys to be eligible for display.
- They may be a researcher or type of provider that does not see patients.
- They may practice in a specialty or office that has not yet implemented the specified surveys used for these ratings.
