Most of us have been touched by cancer, either directly or indirectly. Pink October is a reminder to remember those lost to breast cancer, to encourage those still fighting, to celebrate the survivors and to prevent future cases. A year ago, I had my own battle with breast cancer. As a health care practitioner working in prevention and wellness, I felt almost immune to the possibility of developing cancer. I was healthy, I ate right, and I thought I knew the risk factors. In hindsight, I had more risks than I wanted to admit. With 1 in 8 women developing breast cancer, the likelihood that many of us will be touched personally is high.

Making Self-Care a Daily Deal
#SelfCareSunday may be the trendy hashtag, but nurturing body and soul should be a daily deal, says Dr. Meredith Watson-Locklear, an OB-GYN with Orlando Health Physician Associates. “My number one rule is ‘Make time for yourself,’ ” she says. “Even if it’s just 15 minutes a day. Everyone can find at least 15 minutes in their day, every day, to devote to self-care.” Hitting the pause button on your day doesn’t have to be complicated. To commit to self-care, schedule time each day to focus on yourself. Program it into your schedule, if you have to. When the time comes, walk around the block, listen to a podcast, take a bath or grab some crayons and color. Meditate. Call a friend for a quick chat. Take a power nap.

St. Petersburg City Council approves Bayfront Health land lease agreement with Orlando Health
St. Petersburg, FL (July 9, 2020) – Today, Orlando Health received approval from the St. Petersburg City Council on a 50-year agreement to lease the land on which Bayfront Health is located. City approval of the land lease was required in order for Orlando Health to move forward with its acquisition of the hospital. In June, the healthcare organization signed a definitive agreement with Community Health Systems (CHS) to purchase Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
