Orlando Health and Florida Department of Health Team Up to Develop Innovative Newborn Screening Process
Orlando, FL (August 15, 2019) – Orlando Health has teamed up with the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) to develop a more efficient and accurate way to collect mandated health data from newborn babies. Before leaving the hospital, five drops of blood are collected from babies and sent to FDOH to screen for 54 medical disorders, including cystic fibrosis and sickle cell anemia. It is crucial that the blood samples are sent and read quickly so that physicians and parents can move forward with additional testing or treatment. If not treated in a timely manner, some of these abnormalities can be life-threatening.

Effective November 10, Orlando Health and Bayfront Health St. Petersburg team members will be able to pursue an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or certificate at Lake Sumter State College or St. Petersburg College, without incurring any out-of-pocket costs.

Orlando Health Celebrates Topping Out of Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute
Orlando, FL (December 13, 2021) – Today Orlando Health leaders, physicians, team members, and community partners came together to celebrate a major milestone in the construction of the new orthopedic medical complex currently underway on Orlando Health’s booming downtown Orlando campus. The health system staged a traditional Topping Out ceremony to mark the end of the vertical construction phase of its newest specialty hospital, the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. The ceremony culminated with the final placement of an 11 ft. steel beam that had been signed by hundreds of Orlando Health team members and was sandwiched between two giant replicas of a human femur bone[i].
