I have always really enjoyed being physically active. I used to play racquetball, water ski, snow ski, snowboard. But over time, I couldn’t enjoy those activities anymore because it was just too much for my knee. When it got to the point where I would have to sit out for two days afterward because of the pain, it just wasn’t worth it. I kept lowering the level of my activities.

Because he was raised in the Forest City’s white winters and 80-degree summers, he enjoyed a variety of sports growing up such as skiing, baseball, hockey and football to name a few. But overtime, Ellis’ extremely active lifestyle began to take a toll on his body even in his young age, as he was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease. Osgood-Schlatter causes knee pain in growing children who are very active and results in a painful lump below the kneecap. Though this condition can be resolved and usually doesn’t lead to additional issues, he would find himself experiencing similar problems well into adulthood.

I Can Walk Wherever I Want and Stand for Long Periods
They had me practice walking on uneven surfaces in the on-site garden, going up and down stairs with a walker, and doing domestic activities like putting dishes away in a staged kitchen that is part of the rehab program facilities. I thought it would take two weeks before I was ready to return home, but it took me just one week because they had prepared me so well.

Orlando Health Moves Forward with Lakeland Hospital
Orlando, FL (November 12, 2021) – A new hospital with 136 inpatient beds plus 24 Emergency Department beds is coming to the south side of Lakeland that will soon increase access to high-quality health care for residents in the area’s fast-growing neighborhoods and communities. Orlando Health today announced it will begin to develop its Orlando Health Lakeland Highlands Hospital and associated campus on approximately 80 acres it owns south of the Polk Parkway at Lakeland Highlands Road and the Winter Lake Extension Road. Construction will begin in the late spring of 2022 and the new hospital is expected to be open by fall 2024.

Orlando Health expands free education benefit for team members
Orlando, FL (November 10, 2021) – Orlando Health’s popular employee benefit, the Preferred Education Program, has expanded. Effective November 10, Orlando Health and Bayfront Health St. Petersburg team members will be able to pursue an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or certificate at Lake Sumter State College or St. Petersburg College, without incurring any out-of-pocket costs.

Orlando Health, parent organization of Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, has expanded its Preferred Education Program to now include St. Petersburg College. Through this program, Bayfront Health St. Petersburg team members will be able to pursue an associate degree, bachelor’s degree, or certificate at St. Petersburg College for free. The Preferred Education Program is available to employees, both part-time and full-time, system-wide, and is administered by Bright Horizons EdAssist Solutions.

Orlando Health offers Pfizer vaccines to community
Orlando, FL (June 14, 2021) – Orlando Health is now offering first-doses of the Pfizer vaccine against COVID-19 to anyone over the age of 12 at an easy-to-access drive-through clinic. Located at 44 Lake Beauty Drive on its downtown Orlando campus, patients will be able to remain in their cars during the vaccination process.
