Community donors have invested $1 million in advanced cardiac ultrasound technology at Orlando Health, and as they did so, launched an entirely new career pathway for the hospital’s healthcare workforce.

The recent investment funded 11 new ultrasound systems, state-of-the-art hardware and AI-powered imaging software that now serves as the backbone of the Orlando Health School of Health Sciences Cardiac Ultrasound Program. The first of its kind within Orlando Health, the one-year, full-time program trains cardiac ultrasound professionals to meet growing regional demand. For eligible Orlando Health team members, it is completely free — including books and the credentialing exam.

The link between donor dollars and real-world impact became even clearer this February, when Orlando Health hosted its first Echo Sonography Symposium. More than 35 team members from across inpatient and outpatient settings gathered for hands-on learning focused on consistency, communication and collaboration in cardiac care.

"Standardized practices across our system improve patient care, reduce repeat exams and ensure alignment with the latest guidelines," said Chad Hall, manager of cardiovascular services for Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute's ultrasound division. "This collaborative approach benefits patients through accuracy, efficiency and seamless care."

The donor-funded equipment is already making a difference at the bedside. Advanced tools — including Dynamic HeartModel A.I. software, True Vue Glass displays and TEE Probes — give cardiac specialists detailed, three-dimensional views of the heart that surpass the two-dimensional imaging available at most hospitals. This leads to faster, more precise care, with fewer complications and shorter recovery times.

Gifts to the Orlando Health Foundation do not only buy equipment. They build programs, grow expertise and create ripple effects that benefit patients and the wider Central Florida community for years to come.
