Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital expands patient care with upcoming cardiac catheterization lab, ICU unit

Orlando, FL (April 16, 2025) Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital is expanding its ability and capacity to care for patients with the addition of two state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory procedure rooms, plus a new 10-bed intensive care unit.

Construction is underway on the two-story, approximately 20,000-square-foot expansion at the northwest corner of the hospital. To make room for the development, the hospital’s helipad was relocated to the west side of the campus, at the corner of 17th Street and Communication Way, and extra parking spaces were added to accommodate the growth.

The additional resources are expected to be ready for patient use in January 2026.

“We are thrilled to bring this needed expansion to our Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital campus as it allows us to continue to enhance our care capabilities and to provide, close to home, world class healthcare to this community that we so proudly serve,” said Brian Wetzel, president, Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. “I look forward to seeing the great things we are able to do for our patients within this beautiful new space.”

Patients acutely ill enough to require ICU admission will receive excellent care in expansive, brand-new rooms in the new ICU unit on the second floor, which will replace the existing unit. Critical care and pulmonology doctors provide expert, specialty treatment for these most vulnerable patients.

The two cardiac catheterization laboratory procedure rooms will be located on the first floor, with the latest technology that limits the amount of radiation exposure for a patient, physician and hospital staff.

Cardiac catheterization is a diagnostic procedure that measures the pressure and blood flow of a patient’s heart, which can be used to treat cardiovascular disease. With a cardiac catheterization lab at Orlando Health St. Cloud, a cardiologist can quickly assess a patient suspected of having a heart attack, open a blocked artery to restore blood flow and prevent further damage.
