Bio
Dr. Alexis Avellino is a board-certified sports medicine physician with Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. She treats professional and amateur athletes and those with active lifestyles. She provides nonsurgical orthopedic care, and her expertise includes:
- Fracture management
- Ultrasound-guided joint and MSK injections
- Platelet-rich plasma
- Diagnostic MSK ultrasound
- Sports-related concussion diagnosis and management
- Treatment of chronic conditions such as arthritis, tendinitis and joint pain
Dr. Avellino believes that optimal health and performance are achieved through timely, compassionate and evidence-based care tailored to the individual needs of each patient whether they're a competitive athlete, “weekend warrior” or active individual recovering from injury. She treats each person as a whole by considering their physical, mental and performance needs. Through clear communication, collaboration and compassion, Dr. Avellino aims to return every patient to activity stronger, safer and more informed.
Dr. Avellino’s Training
Dr. Avellino earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, graduating magna cum laude, at Florida State University in Tallahassee and received her medical training at St. George’s University in Grenada, where she was inducted into Iota Epsilon Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Avellino completed an emergency medicine residency at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in Miami and a sports medicine fellowship at Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute.

Dr. Avellino is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine with special qualification in sports medicine. Her professional memberships include the American Medical Society of Sports Medicine, American Academy of Emergency Medicine, Florida American Academy of Emergency Medicine, American College of Emergency Physicians and Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association.
She has presented her work at regional and national conferences.
Outside of work, Dr. Avellino enjoys spending time with family, dancing, reading, pickleball, traveling and event planning.
