Bio
Dr. Andrea “Mithai” Avondstondt is a fellowship-trained female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgeon at the Orlando Health Women’s Institute Center for Urogynecology. She specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pelvic floor disorders, including:
- Urinary incontinence
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Overactive bladder
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
- Fecal incontinence
- Vaginal fistula repair
- Pelvic floor dysfunction
- Painful bladder syndrome and interstitial cystitis
- Urethral diverticulum
Dr. Avondstondt offers conservative and surgical management, including minimally invasive treatments such as laparoscopy and robotic surgery. She strives to provide the highest level of evidence-based care to improve her patients’ quality of life and endeavors to build a strong relationship to accomplish their healthcare goals.
Dr. Avondstondt’s Training
Dr. Avondstondt received her bachelor’s degree in microbiology and cell science from the University of Florida in Gainesville and earned her medical degree from the University of Miami in Florida. She completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore and her fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at Atlantic Health System in Morristown, New Jersey.
About Dr. Avondstondt
As a resident, Dr. Avondstondt was recognized for her achievements in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and for excellence in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery.
She is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and in urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Her professional memberships include the American Urogynecology Society, International Urogynecology Association and American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.
Outside of work, Dr. Avondstondt enjoys cooking, yoga, tennis, reading and scuba diving. She is fluent in English and French.
