Dr. Andrea Ferrara is a board-certified colorectal surgeon with the Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute. He has cared for patients in Central Florida for more than 30 years.
He serves as associate director for the Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute, the Orlando Health / Colon & Rectal Residency Program and for the Advanced Colorectal Minimally Invasive Surgical Fellowship. He is also clinical director for the Pelvic Floor Laboratory at the Colon and Rectal Clinic of Orlando.
Dr. Ferrara specializes in:
- Advanced robotic and laparoscopic colon surgery for benign and malignant disease
- Inflammatory bowel disease, including diverticulitis
- Surgical management of ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease
- Complex pelvic tumors
- Anorectal abscesses and fistula
- Pelvic floor disorders including rectal prolapse
- Fecal incontinence
- Chronic constipation

Dr. Ferrara’s Training
Dr. Ferrara earned his medical degree from the University of Rome Medical School. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Yale University Surgical Program in Connecticut and at the State University of New York in New York City, where he also performed a research fellowship. His fellowship in colon and rectal surgery was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. During his fellowship, he specialized in pelvic floor dysfunction, with an emphasis on incontinence, chronic constipation and biofeedback treatment.

Dr. Ferrara is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the American College of Surgeons.
He holds academic positions as associate professor at the University of Central Florida College of Medicine in Orlando and assistant professor at the University of South Florida in Tampa. Dr. Ferrara's research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, texts and book chapters.
