Annette May is a certified oncology speech language pathologist (CCC-SLP) at the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. She has more than 20 years of experience working with patients who have swallowing and communication impairments as a result of head and neck cancer diagnosis and treatment. Her services include:

  • Swallowing evaluation and treatment
  • Post-tracheostomy communication evaluation and treatment
  • Head and neck cancer rehabilitation
  • Videostroboscopic voice evaluation
  • Voice evaluation and treatment
  • Trismus evaluation and treatment
  • Modified barium swallow study
  • Flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing
  • Alaryngeal voice rehabilitation
  • Intraoperative monitoring during medialization thyroplasty
  • Tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis evaluation and treatment

Annette evaluates and treats individuals based not only on their physical presentation and impairments but also on the goals that are important for them to achieve optimal quality of life. She also is a rehabilitation supervisor at the cancer institute.

Annette’s Training

She received her bachelor's degree in audiology and speech pathology from Florida State University in Tallahassee and earned her Master of Arts (MA) in speech-language pathology from the University of Memphis in Tennessee.

About Annette

Annette holds a certificate of clinical competency (CCC) by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a board-certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S) by the American Board of Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. She is licensed as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) by the Florida Department of Health.

Her professional memberships include the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, Dysphagia Research Society and Florida Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.

Annette has been an institutional principal investigator and collaborated on several other investigations on head and neck cancer research as well as having been published in several peer-reviewed medical journals.  

She has served as an instructor and guest lecturer at the University of Central Florida in Orlando and also has acted as a clinical fellowship supervisor for graduate students from UCF, FSU and the University of Florida. Before her time in Florida, she performed graduate student supervisory roles at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and University of Tennessee Medical Group.

Outside of work, Annette enjoys spending time with her two energetic boys doing anything outdoors, especially activities involving the beach and the mountains. She also likes to travel and try new cuisines.
