Bio
Dr. Aurelio Duran is a cardiologist with the Orlando Health Heart and Vascular Institute specializing in electrophysiology. Board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and clinical cardiac electrophysiology, Dr. Duran has worked at the institute since 1992 and his expertise includes:
- Radiofrequency ablation
- Atrial fibrillation ablation
- Implantable cardioverter defibrillators
- Pacemakers
- Watchman
- Experimental anti-arrhythmic drug protocols
He calls himself an electrician of the heart who became a doctor to help people in their greatest moments of need. His fascination with the heart's electrical system and what causes abnormal heart rhythms pushes him to offer the best insight, skills and counsel to his patients for the best outcome.
Dr. Duran enjoys the interpersonal side of medicine, aiming to always take time to understand patient goals and needs based on a mutual partnership.
Dr. Duran’s Training
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from New York University, he earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in Boston. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, where he also served as acting chief resident in his final year. Dr. Duran performed fellowships in cardiology at the University of Florida in Gainesville and interventional cardiac electrophysiology at the University of Miami.

Dr. Duran previously served as chief of staff at Orlando Health and is a member of the American College of Cardiology and American Society for Pacing and Electrophysiology. He is triple board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Duran has published extensively, participates in interventional drug and medical device protocols and is fluent in Spanish.
