Chakravarthy Raghavan, MD, is a cardiologist with the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. He is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular diseases, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and nuclear cardiology. He provides services pertaining to all aspects of general cardiology including performing diagnostic cardiac catheterization procedures.

Cardiac Disease

Dr. Raghavan treats cardiac disease and other conditions related to heart health like heart attacks, high blood pressure, angina, coronary artery disease and valve disease. Patients are generally referred to him by their primary care physician. Once a diagnosis has been established, he advises patients about lifestyle changes plus the best treatment options and therapies needed to set them on the path to improved health. This may include adding interventional, invasive or non-invasive specialty cardiologists to the treatment team.

Implantable Cardiac Devices

When lifestyle changes and medication aren’t enough to combat heart disease, Dr. Raghavan may recommend an implantable cardiac device, commonly known as a pacemaker, to help monitor and/or regulate heart rhythm.

A pacemaker is a small device that is implanted under the skin and attached to the heart by tiny wires, or leads. It sets the pace of the heart as signals are carried along the leads to the heart and stimulate the heart muscle to beat. A pacemaker monitors and adjusts the heartbeat based on customized limits.

There are several types of implantable devices. As an experienced cardiologist, Dr. Raghavan has the advanced training needed to determine which device is appropriate based on his patients’ diagnosis and condition.

Dr. Raghavan’s Training

Dr. Raghavan earned his medical degree and bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from Stanley Medical College at the University of Madras in India. He then completed postdoctoral education in England and became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of the United Kingdom. This was followed by a residency in internal medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, New York; a cardiology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston; and an electrophysiology fellowship at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
