Bio
Dr. Derek Gonzalez is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon with Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in complex spinal disorders, and his expertise includes:
- Cervical myelopathy
- Sciatica
- Stenosis
- Disc herniation
- Revision spine surgery
- Failed spine surgery
- Scoliosis
Dr. Gonzalez believes in listening to his patients and collaborating on treatment plans tailored to their specific needs. He uses nonsurgical or minimally invasive techniques whenever possible with the goal of easing pain and restoring function.
Dr. Gonzalez’s Training
Dr. Gonzalez earned a bachelor's degree in biological science at the University of Florida in Gainesville, graduating cum laude. He received his medical degree with high honors from Florida International University in Miami and completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Lenox Hill Hospital/Northwell Health in New York, where he was inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society and served as chief resident in his final year. Dr. Gonzalez also completed a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Gonzalez is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His professional memberships include the North American Spine Society, American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and American Medical Association.
Dr. Gonzalez’s research on topics including the latest advances in complex robotic spinal surgery has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals, and he has taught medical students and staff.
Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, fishing and kayaking.

Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Ratings may not be present for certain physicians of Orlando Health Physician Group and Orlando Health Physician Associates because:
- The physician has not yet met the minimum number of 30 patient satisfaction surveys to be eligible for display.
- They may be a researcher or type of provider that does not see patients.
- They may practice in a specialty or office that has not yet implemented the specified surveys used for these ratings.
