Bio
Dr. Ira Guttentag is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. He specializes in knee and shoulder reconstruction and sports medicine, and his expertise includes:
- Knee and ligament reconstruction
- Rotator cuff repairs
- Meniscus and cartilage repair and regeneration
- Total knee replacement
- Arthroscopic knee and shoulder surgery
A leader in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee, Dr. Guttentag is skilled in minimally invasive total and partial knee replacement, which allows for a quicker, less painful recovery. He is one of the first in Florida to perform the a type of knee replacement that preserves the anterior cruciate ligament.
Dr. Guttentag believes in finding treatment options that fit each patient’s individual needs. He provides care to athletes of all ages and levels and has served as medical director and head team physician for the Tampa Bay Lightning since 2002.
Dr. Guttentag’s Training
Dr. Guttentag received his medical degree from the University of South Florida in Tampa. He completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York, and a sports medicine fellowship focusing on knee and shoulder reconstruction at Matthews Orthopaedic Clinic in Orlando.
About Dr. Guttentag
Dr. Guttentag is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Medical Association and Florida Medical Association.
He served as an orthopedic consultant for the Toronto Raptors and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has provided treatment for high school athletes in Hillsborough and Pasco counties. His research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed medical journals.
Outside of work, Dr. Guttentag enjoys spending time with family, tennis, running and weightlifting.

Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.

Ratings may not be present for certain physicians of Orlando Health Physician Group and Orlando Health Physician Associates because:
- The physician has not yet met the minimum number of 30 patient satisfaction surveys to be eligible for display.
