Bio
Dr. Mwelwa Chizinga is a board-certified pulmonologist with Orlando Health Medical Group Lung and Sleep Medicine. His specialties include:
- Lung infections
- Pleural effusions
- COPD
- Asthma
- Pulmonary embolism
Dr. Chizinga also is board certified in internal medicine and critical care medicine. He is dedicated to listening to his patients and providing care in a way they can understand.
Dr. Chizinga’s Training
Dr. Chizinga received his bachelor’s degree in human biology from Curtin University in Western Australia and his medical training at St. George's University School of Medicine in Grenada. He completed an internal medicine residency at the Yale New Haven Medical Center in Waterbury, Connecticut, and a pulmonary disease and critical care medicine fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
About Dr. Chizinga
Before joining Orlando Health, Dr. Chizinga was chief of medicine and a pulmonary critical care attending physician at Gadsden Regional Medical Center in Alabama.
Dr. Chizinga is triple board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and his professional memberships include the American Thoracic Society and American College of Physicians. He has contributed to medical literature, with published research on topics including lung transplants, hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia, pulmonary hypertension, chronic eosinophilic pneumonia, nephrotic syndrome, pulmonary embolisms, heart failure and Whipple's disease.
Dr. Chizinga is committed to community service and education. He has volunteered in patient care at a rural hospital in his native Lusaka, Zambia, provided tutoring in human anatomy to medical students at St. George’s University, and engaged in literacy programs with the Children in Distress organization in Zambia.
Outside of work, Dr. Chizinga enjoys reading, soccer, running and weightlifting.

The Patient Satisfaction Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions, shown above, from our nationally-recognized Press-Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question.
Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score.
The comments are submitted by patients and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not necessarily reflect the views of Orlando Health.
Ratings may not be present for certain physicians of Orlando Health Physician Group and Orlando Health Physician Associates because:
