Dr. Roberto Swazo is a board-certified pulmonary disease specialist with Orlando Health Medical Group Lung and Sleep Medicine with expertise in pulmonary hypertension, a type of high blood pressure that affects arteries in the heart and lungs.

Also board-certified in internal medicine and critical-care medicine, Dr. Swazo treats patients with the following conditions and performs the following procedures, among others:

  • Chronic lung conditions, including COPD and asthma
  • Pre-operative pulmonary risk stratification and high-risk perioperative lung management
  • Routine sleep medicine
  • Critical care issues in the field of the cardiovascular intensive care unit, including extracorporeal membranous oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Diagnostic bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, and more

Dr. Swazo’s Training

Dr. Swazo earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, where he served as chief resident. He performed his fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine and was chief fellow at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, where his clinical niche focused on pulmonary hypertension and management of the critically ill patient on ECMO and other support devices.

He currently serves as the Pulmonary Hypertension Director for Orlando Health. Dr. Swazo also has a strong interest in graduate medical education, with an emphasis in mentorship, in which he participated in the clinician educator track during his fellowship. He currently serves as the Associate Program Director for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program at Orlando Health ORMC.

Dr. Swazo is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His affiliations include the American College of Chest Physicians, American Thoracic Society, Society of Critical Care Medicine and International Society for Heart and Lung Transplant.

A native of Puerto Rico, he is fluent in English and Spanish.
