Dr. Shane Stecklein is a board-certified radiation oncologist with the Orlando Health Cancer Institute. He is skilled in advanced radiation therapy techniques, including intensity-modulated radiation therapy, stereotactic body radiation therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, total body irradiation, total skin electron therapy and proton therapy. His specialties include:

  • Breast cancer
  • Thoracic cancer
  • Lymphoma
  • Hematologic cancers

Dr. Stecklein is heavily involved with translational research on breast cancer, particularly understanding triple-negative breast cancers, which are the most difficult to treat. He hopes to optimize personalized approaches to these diseases.

Dr. Stecklein’s Training

Dr. Stecklein earned a bachelor’s degree in cell biology at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. He received his PhD in molecular and experimental pathology and his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City. Dr. Stecklein completed a radiation oncology residency at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he also completed his research fellowship in experimental radiation oncology.

About Dr. Stecklein

He is board certified in radiation oncology by the American Board of Radiology. His professional memberships include the American Society for Radiation Oncology, American Association for Cancer Research, American College of Radiology, American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society of Hematology.

Dr. Stecklein has received numerous research grants, and his work has been published in dozens of peer-reviewed medical journals. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer and on the editorial board for multiple medical publications and contributed book chapters on radiation therapy for breast cancer and lymphoma.

Dr. Stecklein joins Orlando Health from Kansas, where he was a tenured associate professor of radiation oncology, pathology and cancer biology at the University of Kansas Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Stecklein is a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognizes physician teachers for excellence and compassion, and Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.

Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children, traveling, scuba diving and tending to his honeybee colonies.
