Bio
Dr. Silvia Fernandez is a board-certified gastroenterologist with the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute. She diagnoses and treats disorders of the digestive system, including:
- Acid reflux
- Barrett’s esophagus
- Peptic ulcer disease
- Helicobacter pylori infection
- Gallbladder and bile duct diseases
- Inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis)
- Maldigestion and small bowel diseases
- Liver diseases
- Pancreatic insufficiency and pancreatitis
- Constipation
- Chronic diarrhea
- Colonic polyps and other intestinal lesions
- Hemorrhoids
- Functional disorders
Dr. Fernandez has more than 20 years of experience as a medical professional serving multiethnic populations and understanding their unique cultural identities and medical needs. She believes it is a privilege to serve others and treats patients as she would her own family.
Dr. Fernandez’s Training
Dr. Fernandez received her medical training from the University of Medical Science of Havana. She completed a specialty in family medicine in Cuba, where she practiced in rural and underserved urban areas. She received additional training at the Medical University of Chile and practiced there as a family physician. After coming to the United States, Dr. Fernandez completed an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship at New York Medical College Metropolitan Hospital Center, where she was chief resident in her final year.

Dr. Fernandez is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Her professional memberships include the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Gastroenterological Association and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Her volunteer experience includes work with disabled children and adults, people without medical resources and seniors in nursing homes.
Outside of work, Dr. Fernandez enjoys swimming, singing, cooking and volunteering.
She is fluent in English and Spanish.
