Smithamol Thomas is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-C) and chief nurse executive (CNE) at the Orlando Health Digestive Health Institute. She works alongside gastroenterologists, and her specialties include:

  • Crohn’s disease
  • Ulcerative colitis
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease
  • Colon cancer
  • Gastritis

With more than 20 years of experience, Smithamol believes in treating patients with dignity, respect and sensitivity to their cultural values, and she advocates for collaborative decision-making.

Smithamol’s Training

Smithamol received her training in general nursing and midwifery at the Caritas School of Nursing in India and her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, where she was inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. Smithamol earned her master’s degree in nursing, with high honors and a specialization in family nurse practitioner studies, at South University in Savannah, Georgia. She was awarded a Chief Nursing Executive Certificate from Emory University Goizueta Business School of Executive Education in Atlanta. Smithamol also completed an IBD Preceptorship at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

About Smithamol

Smithamol is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and is licensed as a registered nurse and APRN in Florida. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, National Indian Nurse Practitioners Association, National Association of Indian Nurses of America, Orlando Regional Indian Nurses Association of America, World Malayalee Council and India Press Club of North America and holds many leadership positions.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, volunteering, participating in cultural activities, and encouraging women and youth empowerment. Smithamol also likes music, movies, travel and flower arranging.
