Sushma Koneru, MD, FACC, is a board-certified, noninvasive cardiologist and heart failure specialist in practice with the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. She also works with specialists from maternal-fetal medicine, anesthesia, obstetrics, cardiology and other subspecialties to provide comprehensive care for pregnant women with heart disease.
As a noninvasive cardiologist, Dr. Koneru’s specializes in heart failure. This is a progressive condition where the heart is unable to pump an adequate amount to blood to meet the body’s need for blood and oxygen. Along with heart failure, she focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease, chest pain and valve disease using external testing. Just a few of these tests include:
In addition to medication and ongoing monitoring, after diagnosis she may recommend improved lifestyle behaviors such as smoking cessation, a healthy diet, exercise, less sodium and more.
Dr. Koneru earned her medical degree from Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada in India. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Southern Illinois University in Springfield, where she was appointed chief resident. She then completed fellowship training in adult cardiovascular diseases at Creighton University in Omaha followed by a fellowship in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology at the University of Rochester in New York.
Dr. Koneru has published manuscripts and abstracts in numerous professional publications, including Journal of Cardiovascular Electrophysiology, The American Journal of Medicine, and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. She also has served as a clinical instructor at Southern Illinois University Department of Internal Medicine.
She is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association, American Society of Echocardiogram, and Heart Failure Society of America.
