For each surgeon who was acknowledged, the FACS designation means they’ve passed a rigorous evaluation and they’re committed to providing a high standard of surgical care.  

  • Orlando Health Celebrates Topping Out of Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute

    Orlando, FL (December 13, 2021) – Today Orlando Health leaders, physicians, team members, and community partners came together to celebrate a major milestone in the construction of the new orthopedic medical complex currently underway on Orlando Health’s booming downtown Orlando campus. The health system staged a traditional Topping Out ceremony to mark the end of the vertical construction phase of its newest specialty hospital, the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute. The ceremony culminated with the final placement of an 11 ft. steel beam that had been signed by hundreds of Orlando Health team members and was sandwiched between two giant replicas of a human femur bone[i].

    Orlando, FL (March 12, 2021) – Orlando Health Network’s (OHN) accountable care organization saved the federal government’s Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and other commercial insurers a total of $18.3 million through efforts to improve quality and reduce health care costs during the 2019 calendar year. Nearly 275,000 patients across Central Florida benefited from the partnerships, which represents a major achievement for the clinically integrated network.  

  • Orlando Health expands appointment-free Pfizer vaccines for the public to two locations

    Orlando, FL (July 19, 2021) – Orlando Health has expanded its appointment-free COVID-19 vaccines to the public to two locations. First and second doses of the Pfizer vaccine are available to anyone 12 years of age and older at its easy-to-access drive-through clinic and at the Orlando Health Scripts pharmacy located in the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute. The drive-through clinic is located at 44 Lake Beauty Drive on its downtown Orlando campus. Patients can remain in their cars during the vaccination process. The Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute is also located on the downtown campus at 1222 S. Orange Avenue.

  • Orlando Health Breaks Ground on New Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute

    Orlando, FL (Feb. 26, 2026) – On Thursday, Orlando Health broke ground in downtown Orlando on its new state-of-the-art Orlando Health Weight Loss and Bariatric Surgery Institute that will serve patients throughout the southeastern United States. The two-story, 28,000-square-foot medical office building will be the new home of Orlando Health bariatric service lines including weight-loss surgery, endoscopic procedures, obesity medicine, revision and conversion procedures, robotic procedures and surgical body contouring. The Institute will dedicate space to its psychiatry and nutrition programs, including group meeting spaces and a demonstration kitchen. The Institute will also house an advanced training environment known as a Bioskills Lab. 

  • Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Hand Surgeon Invents New Splint for Better Patient Outcomes

    Orlando, FL (February 26, 2026) – Orlando Health has launched a pilot study of a new splint, invented by one of its own physicians, to improve patient care following a hand or wrist injury. Jeffrey Deren, MD has been practicing medicine for 30 years and saw an opportunity to enhance patient experience and outcomes with the invention of “SafeSplint.” The splint is currently being trialed at several Orlando Health emergency departments and the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute – Alafaya/Waterford Lakes walk-in clinic before systemwide and nationwide distribution.
