Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute’s two cardiology groups merge
ORLANDO, Fla. (April 1, 2016) --- Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute’s two cardiology groups have joined to form one of the largest cardiovascular practices in Florida. Mid-Florida Cardiology Specialists and Orlando Heart Center will begin the merger process on April 1, 2016. Named the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute, the new combined practice consists of 42 physicians, 280 team members and 13 locations throughout Central Florida. Orlando, Fla. (March 14, 2022) --- A new study by researchers at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) found a blood test for traumatic brain injury performs just as well as the clinical guidelines emergency medicine physicians use to decide if a patient with a mild traumatic brain injury or concussion needs a computed tomography (CT) scan. The discovery of the high performance TBI biomarkers blood test may improve the detection of brain injuries on CT, while reducing the need for CT scans. The study was recently published in JAMA Network Open, an international, peer-reviewed, open access, general medical journal.

Orlando Health Hospitals Named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® List
Orlando, FL (April 27, 2021) – Multiple Orlando Health hospitals have been named to the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® list. Orlando Health South Lake was named in the medium community hospital category and, in addition, received special recognition as an Everest Award winner. Everest Award winners are hospitals that earned the Fortune/IBM Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals designation and had the highest rates of improvement during a five-year period. Orlando Health South Lake is one of only 20 hospitals to receive the Everest Award and one of only two in the medium community hospital category.

Orlando Health Enters into a Stalking Horse Purchase Agreement with Steward Health Care for Three East Central Florida Operations
Orlando, FL – (August 14, 2024) – Orlando Health today announced that it has entered into a binding asset purchase agreement to purchase from Steward Health Care (“Steward” or the “Company”), its East Central Florida operations, comprised of Rockledge Regional Medical Center, Melbourne Regional Medical Center, Sebastian River Medical Center, and Steward Medical Group Practices. Orlando Health is a private, not-for-profit healthcare organization serving the Southeastern United States and Puerto Rico. Earlier this month, the system entered into a definitive agreement to purchase majority interest in Baptist Healthcare, located in central Alabama. Steward Health Care is the country’s largest physician-led, minority-owned, integrated health care system. Orlando Health’s qualified bid has been designated as the stalking horse and, subject to the terms of the agreement, Orlando Health’s bid will be subject to higher or better qualified bids received by August 26th, 2024, at which time a bankruptcy court-approved auction may occur.

Orlando, FL (April 22, 2024) Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital will begin using defibrillators with an enhanced energy shock capability that can improve the odds of reviving difficult-to-defibrillate patients who experience sudden cardiac arrest.
