Global Health
Our Internal Medicine Residency has had a Global Health elective since 2011. Every year our associate program director, Dr. Kwabena Ayesu, takes a group of residents to Ghana. During this time abroad, residents set up clinics in impoverished communities to provide direct medical care. Residents also experience what medical training in Ghana looks like and have the opportunity to round in local hospitals. The people and patients inspire us to continue our work to bring healthcare directly to these medically underserved populations.

Rotations
Residents will rotate with specific attendings in 2 month rotations in accordance with our mentorship model of education. Learning will occur in the setting of the operating room, endoscopy suite, clinic, and rounding in the hospital. Most experiences will be located at our downtown clinic and at Orlando Regional Medical Center. Additional learning opportunities occur at other sites including Orlando Health Dr. P. Philips Hospital, Orlando Health - Health Central Hospital, Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Children's Hospital for Women & Babies, and the Orlando VA Medical Center. Travel between clinical sites will be minimized. Interaction and collaboration with general surgery residents and medical students will enrich the overall educational experience.
