Study evaluates college football players’ positions for risk of concussions
Orlando, Fla. (September 22, 2022) — A new research study looks inside the brains of college football athletes to measure levels of traumatic brain injury (TBI) biomarkers by player position. This study, conducted in collaboration with researchers at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and Penn State University, and published in the Journal of Neurotrauma, sheds light on which positions are at the greatest risk for elevations in brain injury biomarkers. The biomarkers are proteins and other substances released from the brain after it has been damaged.

New Dedicated Education Unit Provides Lake County Nursing Students with Unique One-on-One Learning Opportunity
Clermont, FL (November 1, 2022) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital and Lake-Sumter State College have partnered together to develop a teaching-learning model that welcomes student nurses to a dedicated medical unit located on the hospital’s campus for their entire clinical rotation. The dedicated education unit will pair students one-on-one with Orlando Health South Lake registered nurses who will serve as clinical instructors and mentors while also helping students develop partnerships needed for a successful nursing career. The first class to participate in the program started earlier this month.

Brian Wetzel named President of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital
Orlando, FL (June 24, 2022) – Orlando Health has named Brian Wetzel president of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital effective July 1, 2022. He replaces Ohme Entin, who will become the chief operating officer for Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) effective June 27. Mr. Wetzel is currently president of Orlando Health Horizon West Hospital, a hospital he opened in January 2020 as chief operating officer.
