Botox-Type/Botulinum Toxin Type A
What Is It?
Botulinum toxin type A is an injectable neurotoxin with powerful cosmetic benefits. It is the most popular cosmetic treatment nationwide, used by more than 3.6 million men and women annually. It works by blocking the receptors between your nerves and muscles, causing them to relax and helping you look refreshed. Typical brand names of this product our team can offer you are Dysport, Botox and Jeuveau.
What Does It treat?
Botulinum toxin treatments are most commonly used to smooth wrinkles, including those caused by frowning, squinting, smiling and other common facial expressions. Botulinum toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles that cause these lines. Treatments also can reduce excessive sweating, soften vertical neck bands, augment the upper lip, and relieve migraine and TMJ symptoms.
Botulinum toxin treatments are commonly offered by day spas and other non-medical facilities. It is important to keep in mind this is a medical procedure that should be administered by a trained specialist. You should give your search for a provider the same level of care that you would a surgical procedure.
Be sure that your provider has a strong background in cosmetic procedures, including advanced training and experience in botulinum toxin injections. You may be able to ask for before and after photos of other patients. Our physicians, physician assistants and advanced nurse practitioners work together closely, and they are all specially trained and have years of clinical experience providing these injections. Dosages of these injections are based on clinical assessment of your muscle strength and facial features. Not everyone requires the same amount of botulinum toxin in a certain area.
Set up an appointment today to meet one of our experienced providers. During your initial consultation, we will provide information to ensure your confidence and instill trust in our services. We look forward to hearing your specific needs and discussing how we can help you achieve a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
Before your treatment, you will meet with your provider for a consultation. This will include going over your medical history. It is important that you are open and honest during this meeting. There are very few risks with this procedure, but complications can arise from certain medications, allergies, and skin and neurological conditions.
The treatment will typically happen during an office visit and take 15 minutes or less. It is unlikely a topical anesthetic will be necessary. The combination of a very thin needle and the experience of the injector will minimize any discomfort. Application of ice immediate post-treatment can be utilized for any discomfort noted.
After the botulinum toxin is injected, you will be able to resume your regular daily activities, though your doctor may suggest avoiding strenuous activity or exercise for the rest of the day. Among the typical side effects are mild redness, bruising and swelling around the injection site, and mild headache. Initial effects are noted within 48 hours. It may take up to 10-14 days to notice the final results of the treatment.
The effects of the treatment can vary based on the product being used, the area treated and the patient. Results typically last for three to six months. When they start to wear off, your provider can repeat the treatment.
At Orlando Health Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery Institute, we keep our costs low out of respect for our patients. Book your appointment today for an assessment and to discuss cost of the desired treatment.
Injectable Dermal Fillers
What Is It?
Dermal fillers counter the visible effects of aging by replacing some of the volume that is lost as facial tissues thin out. These various FDA-approved gel-like substances are injected beneath the skin, often around the mouth, nose, lips and cheeks, where they smooth out lines and soften wrinkles. This common cosmetic procedure can produce immediate results.
What Does It Treat?
Dermal fillers are often used to remove wrinkles. But they can be used for a variety of cosmetic purposes, including:
- Smoothing out smile lines around the mouth
- Enhancing and restoring age-related volume loss in the face, lips and hands
- Reducing vertical lip lines
- Plumping lips
- Improving the appearance of scars
- Smoothing out a chin crease
- Improving facial symmetry
- Defining jawline
- Augmenting chin
