Overview

Orlando Health utilizes the latest in technology for MRI scanners that enables medical professionals to see deep within the human body in a noninvasive way. Orlando Health utilizes the latest in technology for MRI scanners that enables medical professionals to see deep within the human body in a noninvasive way. An MRI contains a series of powerful electromagnets and enables medical professionals to see inside the body by making use of the body`s natural chemistry. Since the body contains abundant amounts of hydrogen, an element that has prominent magnetic qualities, the scanner is able to excite the protons of the hydrogen atoms in such a way that they transmit faint radio signals. The signals are then read by a computer and converted into a very detailed image.

The advantage of MRI over past imaging techniques is that by using magnetism instead of X-rays, thus avoids exposing patients to ionizing radiation. MRIs are used to evaluate many conditions and used to take several hours to produce images. Today, MRIs can be completed in minutes.
