Call your provider’s office and ask if your appointment can be done virtually, over the phone or via video. Some situations may require an in-person appointment to allow for a physical examination so that your doctor can determine the right care. But in many cases, a telehealth visit is a convenient and effective option to manage many conditions, such as:
- Minor illnesses (colds, allergies)
- Minor injuries (strains, sprains)
- Follow-up care
- Prescription refills or changes
- Chronic disease management
- Back pain
Patients can connect with their doctor for a telehealth visit through several different platforms. Some work through a simple app download and registration. Others require no downloads and visits begin by clicking a link sent by email from the practice. Your physician’s office staff will provide instructions about your telehealth visit when you schedule the appointment.
With a telehealth visit, your appointment with your healthcare provider takes place via a phone call or through video using a smartphone, tablet or computer. You will be able to consult with your provider from the comfort of your home or other locations just as you would in the actual office.
