What is the thyroid?
The thyroid is a gland that sits at the base of the neck and produces hormones that help regulate your metabolism. Thyroid disease occurs when the body produces irregular levels of thyroid hormones. Thyroid nodules are extremely common and are an abnormal growth of thyroid cells that form a lump within the thyroid gland. Over 90% of thyroid nodules are not cancerous.
What is the parathyroid?
The parathyroid is a set of four glands that regulate the levels of calcium in your body. Many forms of parathyroid disease stem from tumors, which can be non-cancerous or cancerous. Less than 1% of diagnosed parathyroid disease is cancerous.
