Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center researchers show a blood test for traumatic brain injury performs just as well as clinical guidelines, may reduce the need for computed tomography scans
Orlando, Fla. (March 14, 2022) --- A new study by researchers at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) found a blood test for traumatic brain injury performs just as well as the clinical guidelines emergency medicine physicians use to decide if a patient with a mild traumatic brain injury or concussion needs a computed tomography (CT) scan. The discovery of the high performance TBI biomarkers blood test may improve the detection of brain injuries on CT, while reducing the need for CT scans. The study was recently published in JAMA Network Open, an international, peer-reviewed, open access, general medical journal.

By virtue of Kim’s warm, nurturing nature and her husband Matt’s love for kids as a teacher, this young couple couldn’t wait to be parents. However, starting a family proved to be a challenge when the couple had trouble getting pregnant. When Kim and Matt finally found out they were expecting a baby boy, they were elated. Determined to monitor Kim and the baby due to the initial trouble conceiving, Kim’s pregnancy was considered high-risk and called for appointments every two weeks at the Center for Maternal Fetal Medicine at Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies. Though Orlando Health Winnie Palmer was quite a distance away from the couple’s home, they felt the extraordinary care was worth each and every trip. Meanwhile, they planned for a birth closer to home in Leesburg to ensure everything was in place on their special day.

West Orange Healthcare District and Orlando Health join forces to improve healthcare in West Orange County
Ocoee, FL (March 22, 2016) – The West Orange Healthcare District (the District) and Orlando Health have joined forces to improve and expand healthcare services for West Orange County residents. The $100 million project, $75 million of which is funded by the District, will help transform Health Central Hospital’s current Ocoee location into a destination medical campus and will bring much needed healthcare services to Horizon West.

Orlando Health welcomes new chief medical information & IT innovation officer
Orlando, FL (March 25, 2020) – Orlando Health is pleased to announce Marshall Denkinger, MD, has joined as new chief medical information and information technology/clinical engineering (IT/CE) innovation officer. In this new leadership role, Dr. Denkinger will be responsible for provider relationship including virtual care, clinical informatics and IT innovation. He will lead initiatives to identify, research, pilot and support adoption of new information technology solutions and processes to best enable business and clinical enhancements.

Orlando Health Celebrates Topping Out of New Patient Tower
Clermont, FL (December 8, 2022) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, Lake County elected officials and community members celebrated another major milestone in the construction of its new, 95-bed patient tower. The hospital’s 75th anniversary, which was first celebrated earlier this year, was also commemorated during the event with the sealing of a time capsule. Physicians, nurses and team members filled the time capsule with photos, memories about Orlando Heath South Lake and letters to the next generation of healthcare workers.

Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute Hand Surgeon Invents New Splint for Better Patient Outcomes
Orlando, FL (February 26, 2026) – Orlando Health has launched a pilot study of a new splint, invented by one of its own physicians, to improve patient care following a hand or wrist injury. Jeffrey Deren, MD has been practicing medicine for 30 years and saw an opportunity to enhance patient experience and outcomes with the invention of “SafeSplint.” The splint is currently being trialed at several Orlando Health emergency departments and the Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute – Alafaya/Waterford Lakes walk-in clinic before systemwide and nationwide distribution.

The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute is excited to begin welcoming patients to its new, downtown complex on March 27. During the first phase opening of the facility, guests will be able to access imaging, lab and pharmacy services, a 62-exam room clinic, the ambulatory surgery center and rehabilitation space.
