  • Study evaluates college football players’ positions for risk of concussions

    Orlando, Fla. (September 22, 2022) — A new research study looks inside the brains of college football athletes to measure levels of traumatic brain injury (TBI) biomarkers by player position. This study, conducted in collaboration with researchers at Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) and Penn State University, and published in the Journal of Neurotrauma, sheds light on which positions are at the greatest risk for elevations in brain injury biomarkers. The biomarkers are proteins and other substances released from the brain after it has been damaged.

    Orlando, FL (November 30, 2022) – The Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute has received an Honorable Mention in the 2022 American Architecture Awards. The prestigious award recognizes the best new buildings designed and constructed by American architects across the globe, as well as buildings designed and built in the U.S. by international architects. 

  • Three Orlando Health hospitals earn 2022 Leapfrog Top Hospital Award for Outstanding Quality and Safety

    Orlando, Fla. (December 6, 2022) – Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Orlando Health Orlando Regional Medical Center and Orlando Health Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies were named Top Teaching Hospitals, and Orlando Health Arnold Palmer Hospital was named was named a Top Children’s Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. The awards, announced today, recognize hospitals across the country for excellence in quality of care and patient safety.

  • Orlando Health announces plans to build a freestanding emergency room in East Orange County

    Orlando, FL (December 21, 2022) – Today, Orlando Health submitted to the Orange County Development Review Committee a request for a pre-application meeting along with renderings of a new freestanding emergency room (ER) the organization plans to build. The request provides specifications for the new ER, which features an 18,000 square foot facility with a capacity for up to 24 exam rooms, including two resuscitation rooms, a computerized tomography room, a radiology room, and a lab. It will be located at 11898 Lake Underhill Road, on a 5.57-acre site that was previously the location of a motorcycle dealership.

  • Survey Finds Alarming Number of Young Women Have No Plans of Getting Mammograms

    Orlando, Fla - About 42,000 women die of breast cancer each year, and while strides are being made in medical treatments, the best tool for preventing cancer deaths continues to be screening and early detection. But a new national survey commissioned by Orlando Health finds far too many women are skipping lifesaving mammograms and many young women have no plans to get screened at all.

  • New Dedicated Education Unit Provides Lake County Nursing Students with Unique One-on-One Learning Opportunity

    Clermont, FL (November 1, 2022) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital and Lake-Sumter State College have partnered together to develop a teaching-learning model that welcomes student nurses to a dedicated medical unit located on the hospital’s campus for their entire clinical rotation. The dedicated education unit will pair students one-on-one with Orlando Health South Lake registered nurses who will serve as clinical instructors and mentors while also helping students develop partnerships needed for a successful nursing career. The first class to participate in the program started earlier this month. 

  • Orlando Health Celebrates Topping Out of New Patient Tower

    Clermont, FL (December 8, 2022) – Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, Lake County elected officials and community members celebrated another major milestone in the construction of its new, 95-bed patient tower. The hospital’s 75th anniversary, which was first celebrated earlier this year, was also commemorated during the event with the sealing of a time capsule. Physicians, nurses and team members filled the time capsule with photos, memories about Orlando Heath South Lake and letters to the next generation of healthcare workers.
