Pediatric Electrophysiology and Arrythmia

For children with a suspected arrhythmia due to congenital heart disease or other causes, The Orlando Health Children's Heart Institute offers a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic treatments. Your cardiac team will evaluate the heart’s electrical system in the electrophysiology lab using state-of-the-art equipment. These studies observe the electrical system of the heart, and help pinpoint sections of heart tissue that may be sending out faulty electrical signals.
We utilize 3-D mapping in the evaluation, as it greatly reduces radiation exposure to the patient, and helps identify the origin of the arrhythmia. This allows the cardiac team to determine the best course of treatment for each child, whether through medication, ablation, pacing or other options.
Correcting the Issue
Electrophysiology studies the heart’s electrical system with electrodes that help pinpoint the section of heart tissue that is sending out faulty electrical signals. Once the source of the malfunction is identified, the problem is corrected during the same procedure.
This procedure is remarkably safe and successful. In addition, the electrophysiology lab can perform pacemaker implantation and provide for the ongoing monitoring and evaluation of pacemaker patients, if necessary.
